Risk of Terrorist Attack

According to a report by World Markets Research Center, the following countries are at the most risk of a terrorist attack in the next 12 months:

  1. Colombia
  2. Israel
  3. Pakistan
  4. United States
  5. Philippines
  6. Afghanistan
  7. Indonesia
  8. Iraq
  9. India [Added later — ZA]
  10. Britain

Is it a coincidence that the country of my birth (and where my parents and siblings live) is ranked one higher than where I live? Also interesting is the presence of the two countries in which the US has waged war recently. I thought the purpose of those wars was to reduce terrorism?

In 186th place, is North Korea. “Despite being a member of the so-called Axis of Evil,” Mr. Dunn said, “North Korea’s repressive state has basically made it impossible for terrorists to function.”

So millions can die in famines in North Korea but no chance of any terrorist attacks!

What about France, you ask:

France and Germany … are ranked 23rd and 41st respectively.

Those Euroweenies! This is Old Europe; even the terrorists don’t want to target them nowadays. Indeed!

If one were uncharitable, one might call this causation rather than correlation (not so much because of you, but because of your coreligionists…)

  2. What about Egypt and Russia, what are their rankings? Do you still have the report? I am doing a risk analysis for a class and this would help a LOT.

    Thanks,
    Todd

  3. Todd: I don’t have the report as that costs money. However, I have fixed the New York Times link in the post so that you can read that whole article.

I couldn’t find the rankings for Egypt and Russia except for the fact that they are lower than the 10 I listed.
