The Early Bird Bites Dust

I did my taxes really early this year and e-filed my federal return yesterday. Today, I received a W-2 from a company I had interned for a couple of years ago. They paid me a bonus or something last year. I had forgotten all about it. So now I have to file an amended return.… Continue reading The Early Bird Bites Dust

Haloscan seems to be having problems. The comments have been off and on since yesterday. Now they are working but some recent comments are gone. A notice on the Haloscan website says that server work is in progress. Hope they fix the problems soon.

National Minorities

Jonathan has a very interesting article talking about legal and political systems for indigenous populations and minority groups. He does a great job at outlining the solutions adopted in the EU and elsewhere and then discusses it in the context of the Israeli Arabs. I can’t recommend the article enough. Any excerpt cannot do it… Continue reading National Minorities

When Challenger blew up, I was in the 10th grade and had a lot of interest in space travel. I was shocked by the accident but… Continue reading Columbia Tragedy

INS gets rid of backlog

From the NY Times: Tens of thousands of pieces of mail come into the huge Immigration and Naturalization Service data processing center in Laguna Niguel, Calif., every day, and as at so many government agencies, it tends to pile up. One manager there had a system to get rid of the vexing backlog, federal officials… Continue reading INS gets rid of backlog

Valentine’s Day Dinner

I thought making reservations for dinner with my wife in a nice French restaurant on Feb 14 two weeks ahead of time would be enough. However, it seems everyone is booked solid. Finally, after calling about a dozen restaurants in the NYC/NJ area, I was able to get a reservation for 10pm. The only other… Continue reading Valentine’s Day Dinner
