My weblog is 4 years old today. It has changed a lot as it has grown. It is now more a personal blog than a political one. I don’t know where it’s going but I do plan on continuing writing about the usual mix of topics.
Month: June 2006
The Magdalene Sisters
The Magdalene Sisters was a good movie which followed the plight of three girls at a Magdalene Assylum. Overall, I would rate the movie 7/10.
In the Mood for Love
“In the Mood for Love” is a an okay movie, though not great. I would rate it 6/10.
Suicide as Asymmetric Warfare
Three prisoners commit suicide at Guantanamo Bay and the reaction of US officials is absolutely shameful, calling the suicides “asymmetric warfare,” “good PR move,” and “a tactic to further the jihadi cause.”
The 40-Year Old Virgin
The 40-Year Old Virgin is good as it makes you laugh. A lot. Steve Carell gives a good performance. I rate it 8/10.
We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed With Our Families: Stories from Rwanda
A very good read, this book is well written and researched. It horrifies the reader since it deals with the Rwandan genocide of 1994. One is further distressed at the lack of action by the rest of the world. I recommend this book highly.
Firefly and Serenity
While Firefly is a sci-fi Western, Serenity is somewhat different. Overall, I think watching Firefly helped a lot in building the characters and the curiousity for Serenity. So I would recommend watching both. I would rate both 8/10.
