Pakistan Election Aftermath

Musharraf’s allies lose big in Pakistan but the Bush administration is still pro-Musharraf. A coalition government of PPP and PML-N is in the offing.

Pakistan Elections

Pakistan is having elections today. Violence has taken its toll though in dampening any enthusiasm. There are also worries about rigging.

When Victims Become Killers

This is an academic book looking in detail at the history of Rwanda and its neighbors and how that led to the 1994 genocide. Despite being difficult to read due to dry writing, I recommend it highly.

Alien

Alien is a good science fiction/horror movie from when I was growing up. It was fun to watch it again.

Super Tuesday

Today is Super Tuesday with lots of primaries and caucuses. We urge everyone to vote for Barack Obama.

Pursuit of Happyness

A good movie about a father and a son who survive in homeless shelters while the father is going through a stockbroker internship.

Global Gender Attitudes

I count the reasons why I won’t raise my daughter in Pakistan. The attitudes of Pakistanis towards women leave a lot to be desired and women don’t have much opportunity there.

No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men is a good movie with a strange, psychopathic villain. I liked it despite the last 15 minutes which felt like an hour or more.

Georgia Coast

On memorial day weekend, we drove to the Georgia coast. Brunswick, St Simons Island, and Jekyll Island were fun. Here are some photographs.

The Third Man

This is a classic thriller set in post-WWII Vienna. Every movie buff should see it.
